Here’s what you need to know, there are hundreds of cheap places to travel solo for your next solo adventure. The important part is are these solo travel destinations safe for solo female travellers?
Now, I’ve been traveling solo for years. I’ve got a wife and a beautiful daughter, but sometimes the freedom of being alone and getting lost in a foreign place is incredibly exciting.
It’s also hazardous if you’re not careful! I’ll also go into some detail about what to be careful of when embarking on solo trips and particularly what to look out for if it’s your first solo trip.
Solo Female Travel: Affordable and Empowering
Embarking on a solo journey as a female traveler can be a life-changing experience. It’s about embracing your independence, discovering the world on your terms, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
While the prospect of traveling solo may seem daunting, we’re here to show you that it can also be affordable and empowering. I’ll also unveil the secrets of discovering enchanting destinations without straining your budget.
So, here’s the situation
Solo travel offers a unique freedom that’s hard to replicate in any other way. It’s a chance to break free from the constraints of routine, discover your strengths, and forge your path.
As a solo female traveler, you’ll find yourself navigating uncharted territory and gaining insights into different cultures, all while savoring the freedom of not having to compromise on your travel plans.
If you’re a first time solo female traveler or someone who has travelled solo on multiple occasions, you’ve been hooked by the freedom and liberation of making new friends in your dream destination.
I can personally tell you that once that bug has got you, it’s got you. You’ll start lining up your favourite cities one by one. You’ll take day trips to cool cities and the dream will officially be a reality.
You’ll start looking to drive a rental car between European destinations that others can only fantasize about visiting. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up moving there and buying your own car.
Here’s what makes it complicated
Now, I’m not trying to be Donny Downer here, but when you solo travel as a woman, the playing field is slightly different than that of a man. There are a few different things to consider and keep in mind as a solo female travel lover.
It’s quite a normal thing however to be wondering what the safest place is for me to take a solo trip and experience the life of a solo traveler without too much hassle. I mean, safety is still a concern in this day and age and that’s just a fact.
Yes, I know, we’re living in the modern world where you shouldn’t have to worry about this, but the reality is that you do.
So, as a solo traveller myself, I wanted to take the chance to advise my fellow travelers on the best places to go and enjoy white sand beaches, charming streets, and gorgeous nature without the stress of crime and budget.
Before I get into that though, I wanted to speak a little about what you should and shouldn’t do when you are out and about by yourself experiencing the fresh air and delicious food of an old city on your terms.
The do’s and dont’s
Yes, before we start this section I’d like to reiterate that you as someone just wanting to travel solo to beautiful beaches and that long-desired city center you shouldn’t have to play by a different set of rules because you’re a solo female traveller.
That’s great and all, but the reality is that you do need to keep your wits about you as all solo female travelers do.
So, here are my cardinal rules for all solo travelers, with a few extra thrown in for a solo female travel experience.
Research and Plan Ahead
Research your destination thoroughly, including local customs, laws, and cultural norms. Plan your itinerary, accommodation, and transportation in advance to avoid last-minute stress.
Trust Your Instincts
Pay attention to your intuition. If you find yourself uneasy in a certain scenario or with a particular individual, it’s important to trust these feelings and distance yourself from that environment.
Share Your Itinerary
Keep someone informed about your travel plans. Share your itinerary with a friend or family member, and check in regularly to let them know you’re safe.
Stay Connected
Carry a fully charged phone with local SIM card or international roaming, and have emergency contacts programmed. Regularly update your social media or a travel blog to let others know your whereabouts.
Blend In
Adopt a modest dress code and aim to assimilate into the local culture to minimize unnecessary scrutiny. Refrain from showcasing valuable jewelry or possessions that could draw unwanted attention.
Choose Accommodations Wisely
Opt for reputable accommodations in safe neighborhoods. Read reviews from other solo female travelers to get insights into the safety of the area.
Be Street Smart
Stay aware of your surroundings, especially in unfamiliar areas. Avoid poorly lit or deserted streets, and be cautious about sharing too much personal information with strangers.
Learn Basic Self-Defense
Consider taking a self-defense class before your trip. Carry personal safety items, such as a whistle, pepper spray (if legal), or a personal alarm.
Pack Wisely
Keep your belongings secure and be mindful of pickpockets. Carry a small first aid kit, extra copies of important documents, and any necessary medications.
Local Emergency Numbers
Know the local emergency numbers and the location of the nearest embassy or consulate.
Connect with Other Travelers
Engage in online travel communities or forums to connect with other solo female travelers. Contemplate taking part in group activities or guided tours as a means to make new acquaintances.
Stay Sober
Limit alcohol consumption, especially in unfamiliar surroundings. Being aware and alert is crucial for your safety.
Overcome the language barrier
As I said, it’s a pity we have to speak about these things, but not everywhere is Fifth Avenue, and I’d be completely irresponsible if I didn’t share this information with you. Solo travellers need to always be aware and always be alert.
Safety first and that’s that.
